Primary Care Development Programme

The Lambeth and Southwark Primary Care Development Programme was an innovative two-year programme, funded by Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity and run by NHS Lambeth and NHS Southwark Clinical Commissioning Groups.

The programme supported 26 GPs and practice managers to develop the skills to lead change from 2014. Through group work, individual coaching, learning from expert speakers and paid cover for their roles while away from the practice, participants had the space to devote themselves to the programme.

It has achieved significant outcomes including the formation of strong GP federations, general practice engagement in wider system integration, and the successful delivery of 8am-8pm, seven-day primary care access in the two London boroughs. Find out more about seven-day primary care access in Southwark.

An independent evaluation concluded that the programme has had a substantial impact on new models of care in the area.
