Increasing demand on our NHS in Southwark

We know that the population of our borough is increasing. We also know that people are now living longer. Meanwhile medical technology continues to advance as new or improved treatment and medicines are made available to patients.

This means that there is more demand than ever on our health services, and this demand is continuing to increase.

At the same time we know that the funds available to spend on health services will not be able to keep pace with this rise in demand.

Providing Southwark NHS services outside of hospitals

To continue to provide a high quality health service, we have to make significant changes over the next few years. We will do this by working with patients to develop new ways of providing some services outside of hospitals and act to make sure the services patients use are better co-ordinated.

Helping people stay healthy

By helping people to stay healthy and to manage their illnesses more effectively, we believe we can reduce the demand on local health services and help our patients achieve better health and wellbeing. There is advice on how you can stay healthy and manage your long term condition in the Your Health section.

For more details on how we will be making these changes go to the Our Plans section of this site.
