Project Melbourne is an initiative that Dr Love, a GP at Melbourne Grove brought with him from a previous GP practice. The purpose of the initiative is to develop the GP practice into a community hub whereby people attend attend not just for medical reasons but for social reasons too.
The initiative began in January 2016 when a charity called Potted History started a weekly arts, crafts and gardening group for over 65s who are patients at the practice. The aim of the group is to design and develop the practice garden to turn it into a beautiful, relaxing space that patients can enjoy.
The weekly group is supported by Angela Buckingham, Patient Ambassador and PPG member. Around 6-8 people attend the weekly meetings (half of these are also PPG members) and Dr Love has been actively recruiting patients who he thinks would benefit from attending the group.
