Need a New Year's Resolution? Dry January!

Save money, lose weight and sleep better this New Year by giving up alcohol for the month of January. Dry January is a 31 day challenge starting January 1st to give up booze and get people thinking about the damaging effects of drinking. Dry January is Alcohol Concern's flagship campaign which has been changing the conversation about alcohol over the past five years.

January is Alcohol Awareness Month and NHS Southwark Clinical Commission Group is encouraging residents to sign up for this fun and beneficial challenge.  Residents are encouraged to calculate how many calories and how much money they could save by doing so.  

Chair Dr Jonty Heaversedge said: "Alcohol can have damaging effects on your physical and mental health. Drinking less can drastically improve your health – including sleep patterns and overall wellbeing. "

"But don't take my word for it- give it a go. Dry January is the perfect opportunity to start the conversation with your friends and family about the effects of alcohol and participate in a fun challenge that will lead to weight loss and better health."
