Transforming primary care in Southwark

Primary care services, and particularly local GP practices, are the first point of contact in the healthcare system for local people. From the 1 April 2015 NHS Southwark Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), along with the other CCGs in south east London, has taken greater responsibility and involvement in the design, shaping and commissioning of local general practices, in a joint commissioning arrangement with NHS England.

This new arrangement will allow us to work more closely with those responsible for securing the provision of general practice, NHS England, and will support our local plans to improve primary care services in the borough.

This joint approach between our CCG and NHS England is referred to as the co-commissioning of primary care and we will now begin meeting regularly in a joint committee, in public, to consider and take decisions on local services together.

The first of these committee meetings, held in public together with the other five CCGs in south east London (Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth and Lewisham), will be on:

These are meetings held in public and members of the public are invited to attend and can submit questions in advance.
